Böhm 100

Gottfried Böhm’s 100th birthday was on 23.01.2020. We celebrate this with a concentrated exhibition dedicated to the pilgrimage church in Neviges, one of his most famous buildings. Together with the curator team Miriam Kremser and Oliver Elser you can discover the concrete cathedral in detail here. Arne Winkelmann shows how a model of the building is being created and Katja Leiskau reports from the DAM collection.

Die Neue Heimat (1950-1982)

Neue Heimat’ was the largest and most prominent non-state housing corporation in post-war Europe. For more than 30 years, the union-led building corporation was responsible for the planning and construction of more than 400,000 apartments. Neue Heimat’s projects not only emerged from a unique interplay between economic interests and politics, they were also an expression and reflection of West German social history.

The Playground Project

Between 1950 and 1980 the playground was a creative laboratory. Innovative, crazy and exciting projects emerged in the cities of the industrial nations: Landscape architects, artists, activists and citizens wanted to provide children with the best playground and at the same time rethink community and city. Curator Gabriela Burkhalter presents the projects.

The DAM for kids and young people

Architecture is not self-explanatory. The significance of architecture merits interpretation and comment. Be it searching for traces in the urban space, a journey through time in the permanent exhibition “From primitive hut to sky-scraper”, or as a master builder on the LEGO building site — the aim of the museum’s educational events is to help people discover the world that’s on the doorstep, finetune their (aesthetic) perception and understand the language of architecture.
